Under general direction of the Program and Project Supervisor (PPS), the Senior Utilities Engineer (Supervisor) is the first line supervisor plans, assigns, organizes and directs the work of a group of engineers and other professional staff responsible for regulation of highway-rail crossing safety.
Specific duties include:
- Assigning and reviewing work, evaluating work performance, recommending appropriate disciplinary action when necessary, and overseeing training for new staff;
- Attending in meetings with the railroads, local governmental agencies (or other applicants), technical and professional standards organizations, industry groups, other state and federal agencies;
- Participating in investigations and hearings and providing expert witness testimony;
- Assisting RCEB management on administrative matters, including analysis of proposed legislation, budget issues, and other related issues;
Additionally, incumbent will be expected to travel overnight, occasionally for several days at a time; and/or drive over 100 miles on short notice or during unusual hours. Possession of a valid California Professional Engineer License and a valid California Driver's License, Class C is required.
