The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is seeking a Senior Transportation Analyst to regulate autonomous vehicle passenger services and transportation network companies operating in California.
This role sits within the CPUC's Transportation Licensing and Analysis Branch (TLAB), which holds direct regulatory authority over AV operators including Waymo, and TNCs like Uber and Lyft. The analyst will shape policy that directly affects how millions of Californians move through their daily lives.
Responsibilities include:
  • Developing and implementing regulatory frameworks for AV passenger services and TNCs, translating emerging technology realities into durable policy
  • Advising Commissioners, Administrative Law Judges, and CPUC leadership on transportation safety, accessibility, and emerging business models
  • Analyzing data from CPUC's AV incident and TNC safety datasets to identify trends, inform rulemaking, and hold regulated entities accountable
  • Engaging regulated companies, academic researchers, and partner agencies to build workable policy under conditions of rapid technological change
  • Supporting interagency coordination on zero-emission fleet transitions within the for-hire transportation sector
