The Administrative Services Division is seeking an individual to perform the duties of an Accountant Advanced in its Springfield Office, which is located, in Sangamon County, at 527 East Capitol Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62701.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under general direction of the Assistant Director, independently performs complex accounting work for the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), Accounts Receivable Unit. This position oversees the reconciliation of agency fiscal records with Treasurer’s records, verifies and authorizes Receipts Deposit Transmittals (C-64) to release the Treasurer’s draft to the Illinois Comptroller, researches original documents, supporting files and subsidiary accounts to trace reasons for cash discrepancies, makes determinations regarding receipts when credits need to be applied, or receipts need to be allocated to more the one invoice, serves as liaison between Agency and ERP team for accounts receivable resolutions, and utilizes SAP/PSCD modules as it relates to the posting of receipts to facilitate the processing of the submittal of receipts to the IOC as dictated by the SAMS manual. Along with those duties, this position also implements all procedures to comply with the accounts receivable collection act, assists with cash receipts application, performs reconciliation and reporting, and serves as a designated lead worker.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
This position requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with courses in business administration and accounting and requires two years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting. This position also prefers the following; prefers extensive knowledge of accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures, prefers extensive knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to accounting or auditing procedures with accounts receivable and cash receipt processes is requested, Prefers working knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with extensive knowledge in Excel spreadsheet development and Access database applications, prefers skill and ability to evaluate more difficult accounting problems and to analyze and interpret more complex accounting records, prefers ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships and to deal tactfully with controversial problems, prefers ability to prepare comprehensive accounting reports, to determine violations and noncompliance with the law and to detect and explain significant irregularities, to review detailed work including written or numerical data and to make calculations rapidly and accurately, prefers working knowledge of Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP). This position also requires the ability to pass an Illinois State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
The Accountant Advanced position is an AFSCME, RC-62, grade 16 position with a salary range of $5,179 - $7341 monthly. The hours of work are anticipated to be 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch period and two 15-minute breaks.
