About the Position

This is technical work in enforcing standards for the transportation of natural and other gases, in addition to hazardous liquids. Investigators make field inspections of gas distribution, municipal, mast meter, intra-state transmission, and direct sales pipeline facilities to ensure systems follow federal and state regulations. Investigators write reports, review utility requests for variations in services, and investigate accidents. Investigators must pass mandatory classes in the allotted amount of time set by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

What you'll need to be Successful

Knowledge of pipeline construction, operation, and maintenance. Familiarity with federal and state pipeline safety regulations. Skills in interviewing witnesses, collecting field evidence, and documenting findings. The ability to detect anomalies, inconsistencies, or violations in technical and procedural data.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 4-6 years of investigative experience. Agency preferred qualifications: Direct experience in investigating utilities.
