About the Agency

The Mississippi Public Service Commission supervises and regulates certain communication companies, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities. It is the Commission's responsibility to see that rates and charges for service are just and reasonable, that approved rates are adhered to, that utility service is reasonably adequate, and that facilities constructed or acquired by utilities are required to serve the public. The agency is divided into three districts: Northern, Central, and Southern. This opening is for the Southern District. The Southern District serves 27 counties and is headquartered in Biloxi. About the Position

This is highly responsible administrative and technical work assisting in providing public utility consumer protection. An employee in this class is responsible for programs of investigation, reviewing and investigating reports and recommending solutions. Responsibility includes acting on behalf of public utility consumers in formal and informal utility consumer complaint cases and in staying current with tariff revisions by regulated utilities. Work is performed with wide latitude for independent judgment, subject only to administrative direction by the Commissioner and Division Supervisor. Work is evaluated based on results accomplished in terms of the satisfactory solutions of consumers' complaints against regulated public utilities in compliance with the established rules and regulations of the Public Service Commission and the attitude of the public toward the Commission.

What you'll need to be Successful

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. A Highschool degree or GED Equivalent, Experience with office equipment (i.e., fax, printer, scanner, etc.). Written and verbal communication skills, multitasking and time management skills, ability to be present in the office during regular business hours, and a professional attitude and appearance.
