THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has an opening for a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant 1 within the Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement (I&E). This position is one of two Legal Assistants who provide legal secretarial and clerical support to the I&E staff. Some basic terminology and familiarity with legal documents are helpful; however, if you are willing to learn, we can train you! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will prepare, type, and proofread various types of legal documents and correspondence. Your attention to detail in this work will help our team represent the public interest regarding public utilities such as electricity, natural gas, water, and more! Work involves proofreading typed materials for grammatical and typographical correctness, as well as adherence to Bureau and Commission policy, methods, and deadlines.

Your responsibilities will also involve tracking corrections made to specific documents, preparing final copies for transmittal, and ensuring finalized documents are delivered to each party via all required formats. This includes filing documents with Bureaus and Courts on time using the electronic filing system, receiving electronically filed documents from outside parties, and maintaining organized central lists and folders of all electronic documents and their respective recipients. Other responsibilities may include assisting with travel arrangements and maintaining office supplies inventory, as well as greeting visitors, answering phones, and screening calls.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Part-time work from home (telework) may be a potential feature of this position. The successful candidate is required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
    • To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's alternate (telework) worksite must meet the following requirements:
      • Within a reasonable travel distance of headquarters and
      • Within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:
