What You’ll Do:
As a Utilities Regulation Inspector – Electric, you will:
- Inspect physical facilities, records, construction projects, and operations of public and private electric utilities.
- Evaluate compliance with state rules, regulations, and safety standards during on-site inspections.
- Assist utilities in understanding and applying codes and standards while identifying unsafe installations or practices.
- Investigate accidents involving electric transmission and distribution facilities to determine causes and recommend corrective measures.
- Review and respond to safety or service complaints by conducting investigations, analyzing records, and interviewing stakeholders.
- Use specialized testing equipment (voltmeters, ammeters, frequency meters, ohm meters, etc.) to evaluate facility performance and safety.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed technical reports documenting inspections, findings, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with colleagues and provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent regulatory oversight.

- Strong knowledge of electrical utility practices, operations, and safety codes.
- Familiarity with technical engineering principles related to electrical utilities.
Skill in applying codes and standards to real-world installations and operations. - The ability to travel throughout Iowa (and occasionally out of state) for inspections and investigations.
- A collaborative approach, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
